Why the most expensive manuka honey in the world?

Manuka honey is extracted from bees in the mountains of New Zealand and parts of Australia, which feeds on the nectar of tea tree flowers
New Zealand manuka honey works against dangerous bacteria, and a recent study has shown that it can be used to treat cystic fibrosis. However, manuka honey is not a substitute for medical treatment, and should not be used only after consulting a doctor, because it has side effects may reach damage to the middle ear and negatively affect wound healing.

Recent research has shown that manuka honey can kill bacteria resistant to antibiotics in wounds, and is currently studying the use of honey as a therapeutic alternative in cases of nephritis, according to the "Science Daily" specialized scientific.

A recent study by the University of Swansea found that the use of manuka honey can provide an alternative to the treatment of respiratory infections, especially against bacteria found in cases of cystic fibrosis.

The study, published in the Science Daily, said the study's authors planted bacterial infections similar to those seen in cystic fibrosis patients and then treated the infections with manuka honey.

The results showed that it was effective in killing bacteria by 39%, while the proportion of killing bacteria in the case of antibiotics use only 29%. If honey and antibiotics were used together, the percentage was 90%.

What manuka honey?
Manuka honey is extracted from bees in the New Zealand mountains and parts of Australia that feed on the nectar of the "tea tree" flowers, also called "manuka shrub".

This honey has a special flavor and a dark color. Manuka honey differs from natural honey because of its high content of methylglyoxal, which has a high antibacterial effect. The concentration of this substance in manuka honey is 100 times higher than that found in traditional honey, according to the site "Geisundheit" German.

Because of the high demand for manuka honey, the price has risen dramatically, as pointed out by the newspaper "Lausitz" German. The tin can cost up to 100 euros ($ 112).

Side effects
But the German site "Geisundheit" states that the side effects of manuka honey are still unknown. The study pointed out that the intensive use of honey in the treatment of the middle ear had caused damage, so care should be taken in individual treatment without consulting a specialist, especially for people with diabetes, who should consult their own doctor before using honey.

The high concentration of methylglyoxal can also adversely affect wound healing in some, and in chronic wounds it can negatively affect the development of pain.
